HCGB Technologies is an Australian clean-tech startup engineering next-generation mechanical energy storage systems that solve the limitations of lithium-based batteries in grid-scale and off-grid applications.

Founded by Scott Anderson, HCGB is developing two complementary technologies — the ELEVATE System and the Hybrid Cascading Gravity Battery (HCGB) — designed to provide synchronous inertia, dispatchable energy, and zero-emissions backup using gravity, flywheels, and hydraulic or pneumatic reset mechanisms.

The company’s flagship solution, the ELEVATE System, is a patent-pending gravity engine that uses descending mass to generate rotational kinetic energy through sequential flywheel activation. With 96% round-trip efficiency, mechanical simplicity, and no reliance on rare earths or combustion, ELEVATE is engineered for rapid deployment in Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), grid support infrastructure, and critical systems requiring high resilience and instant reset capability.

HCGB Technologies is currently collaborating with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) on R&D integration and is engaging Transgrid and NSW Energy Infrastructure leaders on early-stage pilot deployments aligned with the state's system-strength mandates.
